Floralsšøšŗ was a HUGE trend in the 70s and 80s, which is still alive in contemporary fashion. There are many Fashion Illustrators who use flowers in their designs, but Grace Ciao is the only one to use real life flowers for her illustrations (MORE ON HER IN THE 'FASHION ARTISTS' POST).
Below is a GIF of some of the steps we will be going through together!
Don't worry- You're not alone š
Do you also have a passion to carry forward the trend of flowers in the Fashion Industry? āŗļø
I HAVE 2 TECHNIQUES TO SHARE WITH YOU! YES, 2 š±š¤Æ
First of all, cut outāļø circle shapes from a variety of different textured and coloured fabrics. HERE'S AN IDEA- you can use a roll of sellotape to draw aroundāļø as the template for your circles.
Technique 1
Here are some steps of how to create fabric flowers using a heat gun!šš¼

MATERIALS REQUIRED:
Heat Gun
Pencil
1) Layer 4 circles on top of each other and put the end of a pencilāļø in the middle of the circles to hold them together.
2) Turn on the heat gun and allow it to warm up for approx 30 secondsā±. Then, circle the heat gun repetitively around the pencil. Focus the heat gun mainly on the top layer of fabric, to ensure that it melts the most and shrinks more than the bottom layers. Melt the circles enough until you believe it looks like a flower. š¼
TOP TIP- You may also hand stitch a dot in the middle of the flowers to ensure that the layers stay together, but this is only optional! š
Technique 2
This 2nd technique involves machine stitch. šš¼

MATERIALS REQUIRED:
Transparent Fabric
Embroidery Hoop
Sewing Fabric Pins
Sewing Thread
1) Place a piece of see-through fabric in between a large embroidery hoop. Choose 2 already cut-out fabric circles and place them on top of each other. Fold them in half twice (it should look like a quarter circle) and use pins to attach this to the see-through fabric. Repeat this step 3 times to create a circle shape in the embroidery hoop.
2) Use a colour thread of your choiceš§µ to stitch a circle in the middle space between the pins and this will secure the quarter circles together. Once complete, you should now be able to remove the pins without your flower losing shape.š¤©š¤©
